THE PINK RIBBON ROAD - BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

First, lets get some stats!

Breast Cancer is the most common cancer among women.

  • Every year, about 240,000 women in the United States are diagnosed with Breast Cancer. That means a whopping 657 per day!
  • About 42,000 women in America die each year from Breast Cancer
  • Black women have lower incidence rates than other races but 40% HIGHER death rates.
  • Men can get breast cancer, too. About 2,100 men in the U.S. are diagnosed with breast cancer annually.

What is The Pink Ribbon Road

The Pink Ribbon Road is a division of The C.R.O.W.N.E.D Community Foundation that strives to improve breast cancer awareness as well as improve medical treatment and quality of life for patients in or post treatment. We create and assist in various projects in our region to help improve the prevention and early detection of breast cancer and cater to the social care of patients, families, and friends.

Prevention

Studies show that 1 in 3 cancer diagnosis can be avoided by adopting a healthier, more balanced lifestyle.

TIPS:

  1. Exercise 30 minutes per day
  2. Avoid alcohol, tobacco, and drugs
  3. Maintain control of weight

Detection

When diagnosed early, 9 out of 10 patients are still living after 5 years and the majority of that number will have beaten the disease!

The sooner breast cancer is detected, the less invasive the treatment is, and the greater the chance of kicking cancer's ass!

Social Care

When women are diagnosed with breast cancer, they encounter teams of medical staff dedicated to focusing on medical treatment. Though necessary, this is insufficient. The Pink Ribbon Road is here to address the feelings of anxiety and the many questions about the future and how to maintain a life post diagnosis.
